One month old!

Jake is one month old today. I can't believe it. It's going so fast.
He had his one month checkup today and was 8 lbs, 11 oz (yeah!!) and was 21 inches long. He's in the 25th percentile for weight and 30th percentile for height. Poor little guy has a blocked tear duct so his eye has been a bit goopy. We are still working on sleeping at night. He usually goes between 3-4 hours but has done 5 hrs a few times. We're hoping for more of those nights.

We went to Iowa last weekend to visit family and Jake got to meet Grandpa Great and Grandma Great, as well as his Great Aunt Becky and Uncle Herb and Great-Great Aunt Marie. Of course he got a lot of snuggle time with Memaw. It was so nice to see everyone.






Luke and Lauren love to visit "the farm". Lauren leaned to make pies with Memaw.











Luke loved checking out Papa's tractors.






We also went to visit a local pumpkin patch.






They loved feeding the goats.






Jake did a lot of hanging out and sleeping.

Baby Jake is Here!!

Although my due date wasn't until 10/11/12 (which would have been a cool birthday), our baby boy decided to help celebrate his mama's birthday by making his grand entrance on Tuesday September 25, 2012! What a wonderful birthday present.

 
John Christopher "Jake" Mead arrived at 6:36 pm, weighing 6 lbs, 13 oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. My labor was great. I had been having contractions for a few weeks but they felt a bit stronger that morning. Lauren and Luke sang me happy birthday and made me a special birthday breakfast before heading off to school. I worked from home much of the morning but decided around 11 am that a walk was in order to see if the contractions continued. They did and we headed for the hospital around 1 pm. After a pretty uneventful labor, Jake arrived!

Lauren and Luke were so excited to meet their new baby brother.




Jake even gave them big brother/big sister presents. Luke loved his!

Luke was also very nice and shared some of his cars with Jake. (We'll see how he feels once Jake can really play with them).



We came home from the hospital on Thursday. Jake is such a little peanut in his car seat.


Memaw and Papa came from Iowa meet their 7th grandchild and to stay with us and help for a few days. We were all sad to see them go.

Nonny and Boppa returned from their vacation to Italy to meet their new (13th!!) grandchild.

The last few weeks have gone quickly. We're starting to get into a little routine. We've tried to get outside a little bit and enjoy these beautiful fall days.  Somehow we even managed to make it to church on Sunday!

We visited the zoo to pick out our pumpkins.



And of course we've been snuggling Jake!!


What a difference a few years make!!

Jake is three weeks old today! Already!! He is going about 3 1/2 to 4 hrs between feeding at night. He doesn't like to sleep much after his 10 pm feeding until his 1:30 a.m. feeding, but we're working on it. He is starting to stay awake a little more during the day which is great! He's eating well and seems to have no issue with taking a bottle or nursing. We go back to the doctor next week for his 1 month checkup. I'm anxious to see how much he's grown. His newborn clothes (which were too big when we came home from the hospital) are fitting more snugly now.

We still can't believe that we are parents to three beautiful, healthy children...and two boys no less--I think we're in for some crazy times ahead if Luke is any indication!! But we truly feel blessed. Jake fits right in. His sister and brother love him so much! Although I can never imagine loving another child as much as the previous one, the moment we saw him, we were in love just as much as we are with Lauren and Luke.

Celebrating the end of Summer

What a great holiday weekend! The Wessels came to visit this weekend (and cheer for the Hawkeyes) so we spent the weekend having fun and soaking up the last bits of summer. Although the weather wasn't as cooperative as we would have hoped, we still managed to have a great time.

Wheaton's 4th of July celebration was cancelled due to a terrible storm the week prior (which knocked out our power for 14 hours and many others were out nearly a whole week) so Wheaton rescheduled the fireworks and parade for this weekend.

They had a little carnival to coincide with the fireworks. Of course, the kids can never pass up a few carnival rides. Luke enjoyed the train.



Lauren climbed her way up the climbing wall with no problem.










There was a great coloring wall everyone could color. Art in the park. Lauren colored this flower.




Luke was a little unsure about the fireworks. He said they were fun but hid his face in my neck during most of the fireworks and kept telling me they were too loud.









We met the Zorns at the parade this morning. It was a nice parade but just can't compare to the Grandview 4th of July parade. Nothing really compares to it...there is just something about a small town celebration. The kids enjoyed it and of course were excited for the candy being thrown.

We managed to get in a few hours at the pool this afternoon one last time before it closed for the season. Sigh...fall is on the way. We had a great summer and Lauren learned to swim and Luke finally became comfortable in the water. Yeah!! Hopefully I'll get a summer recap blog posted one of these days.
